I enjoy this publication, and you all explain the FINANCIAL case for these being attractive businesses well, but man do these businesses suck for society - and you mention that 0.

The patent application for virtual reel mapping, the technology behind most modern slots, literally says the goal is to “make a machine that is perceived to present greater chances of payoff than it actually has within the legal limitations that games of chance must operate.” In layman’s terms, that means the whole point is to trick you.

You even cite The Anxious Generation identifying the problematic addictive nature of vertical video as a positive trend indicator toward the addictive properties of slots on your phone?! Come on guys. There are many ways to make money. At least name the major tradeoffs that come from this category.
